The Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) - a region that looks back to traditions and forward to the future - form the largest single tourist region in Saxony, and at the same time the most densely populated medium-high mountain area in Europe.

But in addition to the scenic beauties, ample historic testimony to the diligence and creativity of the local people is waiting to be discovered. The Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) are a holiday region where traditions form part of people’s daily lives.

The hillside is criss-crossed by over 5,000 km of hiking trails, including the European hiking trails EB (Eisenach - Budapest) and E3, as well as the principal trails “Zittau-Wernigerode” (ridge-top route), “Görlitz - Greiz” and “Baltic Sea - Saaletalsperren” (reservoirs). Not to mention the varied nature and mining trails which provide, often in an entertaining manner, interesting facts about the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) for both the old and the young.

The natural landscapes of the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) form a traditional holiday and recreational area.
